TNEA Application Form 2018


The application form of TNEA 2018 is available from May 3 to May 30 in online mode. After filling in the online registration of TNEA 2018 application form, candidates must take aprint out of the same and take it to the TNEA Faciliation Centre for verification along with the original documents after payment of the application fee of Rs 500 (General). SC/ST/SA candidates have to pay Rs 250. When filling the application form of TNEA 2018, care must be taken to enter only genuine information. The TNEA application form 2018 will include fields like education details and personal details. Also, when uploading any documents, the candidate must conform to the prescribed format.

TNEA Eligibility Criteria 2018


Candidates need to fulfil the eligibility criteria prescribed by Anna University to be considered for admission to any of the participating institutes of TNEA 2018. The list of criteria are mentioned below:

Nativity:
  • Candidates from Tamil Nadu (TN) who have passed VIII-XII in the state can apply and needn’t enclose certificate of nativity.
  • Candidates native to TN but who have passed VIII-XII in some other state must enclose nativity certificate.
  • Children of Central Govenmnt Employees can also apply provided their parents have been working in TN for past five years.
  • Candidates who have studied VIII-XII in the state of TN are eligible and don’t need to enclose Nativity Certificate.
Qualifying Exam

Candidates need to have passed HSC or any equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The category-wise minimum aggregate % of marks required in the three subjects is given below:

Age Limit: Candidate who are applying to Marine Engineering mustn’t be older than 25 years on the last day of submission of online application deadline.

TNEA 2018 Eligibility Criteria for other state candidates:
Under the other-state quota, candidates who are Indian citizens but not a native of Tamil Nadu can apply.

Qualifying Exam and Marks: Candidates need to score a minimum of 50% aggerate marks in PCM taken together (40% in case of SC/ST candidates) in HSc or equivalent exam.

TNEA Random Number 2018

After successful registration, candidates are assigned a random number that will be used as the last resort to break the tie in case all the other tie-breaking guidelines are exhausted. Candidates must login and note the random number assigned to them. The TNEA random number is a unique 10 digit number assigned to each applicant to resolve any conflict. This can occur when two or more candidates get the same rank and the inter-se-merit is not resolved after using criteria like marks, date of birth etc. 

Verification of Original Certificates

All applicants will be required to visit the assigned TNEA Facilitation Centre (TFC as chosen during application filling) along with a hard copy of the TNEA 2018 application, original certificates (Class X, XII, School leaving certificateetc) along with a set of photo copies of their original certificates. At the TFCs, the original certificates will be verified against their registered application date. A booklet containing the College Information will be given to the applicants for the applicants’ to help them to prepare their choice list. In addition, TFCs will screen videos that will demonstrate how to use the TNEA portal at all stages of the counselling process.

TNEA Rank List 2018


The rank list of TNEA 2018 will be available tentatively in the third week of June for those candidates who have successfully completed the online registration process. For preparing the rank or merit list of TNEA 2018, the marks obtained in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry in the qualifying examination would be considered. The rank list of TNEA 2018 preparation process includes nomralizing marks obtained by candidates of other boards in the qualifying examination. This is done to factor in differences in difficulty level between different boards and the State Board of Tamil Nadu.

Also, rank list of TNEA 2018 would be prepared based on total marks of 200 (Mathematics – 100, Physics + Chemistry – 100). In case two or more candidates score the same marks in the common merit list, the inter-se-merit of the the candidates would be decided in a following order of priority:
  1. Percentage of marks obtained in Mathematics
  2. Percentage of marks in Physics
  3. Percentage of marks in the fourth optional subject
  4. Age of the candidate (the older candidate will be given prefernce)
  5. Random number assigned (higher number will be placed higher in merit list of TNEA 2018)
The common merit list would include the name and ranking of the shorlisted candidates. To check their random numbers, the candidate will have to log in using their registered email ID and password.
In case of Other State candidates, the 4th condition (age the candidate) will be the last condition for deciding inter-se merit. Also, the rank list will include the overall rank, region wise rank and community-wise rank of the candidate.
After the publication of the merit list, a week will be given to all applicants to file any grievances. To do so, applicants must contact the Office of Secretary, TNEA, Chennai.

Candidates who get selected during counselling round will be allotted seats at one of the participating institutes of TNEA 2018. There are 563 institutes that are expected to participate in TNEA 2018 offering some 1.5 lakh seats. The top 5 participating institutes of TNEA 2018 are listed in the table below.

Allotment of undergraduate engineering seats through TNEA 2018 will be done under seven categories. These seven categories and the percentage of seats reserved per category are outlined in the table below:

TNEA Cutoff 2018


The TNEA 2018 cutoff is the minimum rank a candidate needs to score to be in eligible for seat allotment. The cutoff of TNEA 2018 would be available for the specific college, community code (SC, ST, OC, etc.), and branch. The check the TNEA cutoff 2018, the candidate have to go to the cutoff portal and select the relevant fields. The candidate, typically, would be required to enter three mandatory – district, college name, and branch, and one non-mandatory field – community code. Candidates who score the cutoff of TNEA 2018 will have to counselling round. When preparing the cutoff of TNEA 2018 factors like the number of candidates applying for admisison, previous years’ cutoff trends, and marks obtained by the candidates in qualifying exams will be taken into consideration.

TNEA Counselling 2018


Candidates will be grouped as per merit list into rounds. Counselling will be held for each group round wise.

The process to be followed in TNEA counselling for each round is as follows
  • The list of eligible applicants for each round will be published
  • Such applicants are required to first pay Rs.5000 (Rs. 1,000 for SC/SCA/ST) towards initial deposit through online mode.
  • After payment, candidates must fill in their choices of courses and colleges in the order of their preference within three days.
  • Seat allotment is then announced on the basis of the merit list and order of preference of choices entered by the candidates
  • To check the provisional allotment, candidates have to login and confirm their allotment within the next two days.
  • Candidates not allotted any seat can opt to participate in the next round. They can also opt to particpate in the next round.
  • The final allotment will be announced after consideration of the allotment options received from the applicants.
  • Once the final allotment is done, candidates are required to report to their allotted colleges within the stipulated time mentioned by the University.
TNEA Facilitation Centres

Anna University will set up facilitation centres across all districts to give support to all aspirants. The TFCs will provide internet enabled computer facilities for all applicants at no cost. Candidates can go to the TFCs to complete the different stages like registration of applications, providing college preferences and collection of allotment orders

TNEA Seat Allotment 2018


The allotment of seats for TNEA 2018 will conducted in the order of merit. Also, when allotting seats category-wise rank of the candidate will be considered for filling seats reserved for candidates belonging to the state of Tamil Nadu. The choices entered by the candidate during counselling will also be taken into account. Once a candidate is allotted a seat, the candidate can go ahead and pay the remaining tuition fee.
